Oh yes, I have missed Maramures for a looong time. It felt like visiting an old friend after more than 10 years.
This old friend has not changed much. Still very rural, friendly and chatty, willing to show me a beautiful side of a genuine village, combined with visits to a local distilery (and a couple of shots of palinca to go with), or to some of the stunning wooden churches (part of the UNESCO heritage, by the way), or speaking to some locals curious to know:
- where do you come from?
- why are you here?
- who do you want to visit?
- where is your accommodation and how much do you pay/night?
- how much is a liter of milk in Bucharest?
- many other random questions
To cut a long story short (great line from a Spandau Ballet song), go to Maramures and walk through the villages, talk to the locals, explore by bike or by foot. You will not regret it 🙂
