Day 2: We’ll hit the road to our great Fagaras Mountains, also called The Alps of Transylvania. You’ll have the chance to see the famous Transfagarasan road that goes up to our destination at Balea Lake (2040 m alt.). We’ll spend the night here, having in front of our eyes the beautiful glacial lake surrounded by mountains.

Accommodation at a local guesthouse.

Day 3: This day is dedicated to a moderate hike, meant to prepare us for the next day’s challenges. We will go to Saua Doamnei (2198 m alt.) and then descend in the valley that has the same name. Along the way we will be rewarded with great views of Balea Lake and the high peaks that surround us: Paltinu (2401 m alt.), Capra (2417 m alt.) and more. The night ends with stories and good fun beside a cup of warm tea.

Accommodation at a local guesthouse.

Day 4: It’s time to feel the real taste of Fagaras! For today we’ve planned a route that will show us beautiful lakes, high altitude trails and mountains…mountains..as far as the eye can see. They don’t call Fagaras the Alps of Transylvania for nothing!
At the end of the day, tired but happy, we’ll descend at Podragu hut (2136 m alt.).

Accommodation at Podragu hut.

Day 5: Yes, the big day has come! Today we will step on Moldoveanu Peak, the highest in Romania (2544 m alt.). If we’re lucky enough we should see the famous blanket of clouds, characteristic to high mountains. But that’s not all folks! Today you have the chance to be the guides. We’ll have a friendly chat about how to choose the route, how to walk and how to recognize the landmarks that we see along the way. From Moldoveanu Peak we’ll get back to Podragu hut.

Day 6: This is the day when we say goodbye to our beautiful mountains. Depending on the weather conditions we’ll discuss the route back to Balea Lake.
