Like all good things in life, love for fresh mountain air starts young. Especially in the video-game filled world of today, getting out there at a young age is more and more important. Smart phones and tablets are part of our everyday life and we’re far from vilifying them – especially since they’ve more than proven their worth during the last two years’ home schooling adventure. We’re just here attempting to restore the balance and bring some offline fun options to the table.
We have the gateway-trips, one day easy morning pick-up and evening drop-off type of hikes and then, once the legs start moving, full week camps to completely reset your lunch capacity 😊.
Day hikes in Bucegi
From 8am to 8pm, a full day of fun and still home for dinner before the sun sets. We pick-up everyone in Bucharest and then it’s a fun drive to the mountains in our minivan.
Once in Bușteni or Sinaia (depending on the hike) we make our way to the cable car that takes us high up in Bucegi plateau. Temperature drops 10 degrees (a blessing in summer) and we’re free to run around and compete for who gets first to every corner that we come across on the way. We break for lunch (usually under very heavy protest from our young hikers) in our special spot filled with edelweiss perennials, a great chance for a little biology and environment discussion over home-made sandwiches. A short game of catch to get the blood flowing after lunch and we’re back on the trail heading home.
This also works for hikes in Ciucaș Mountains, Bran area or Piata Craiului National Park. They all have endless trail variations and are all suitable for a day trip from Bucharest.
Ready for more? One week camps
Once they get the taste of fresh air and blueberry picking you can level up to one of our week-long camps – for 2022 we chose Cheile Nerei and Retezat range. We handle accommodation and meals and all connected logistics, you just have to bring your child to a designated time and place and we take care of everything. No hassle, just fun!
It’s a welcomed break from their everyday schedule – hiking, climbing, bird watching, outdoor games, discovering small forgotten villages in the heart of the mountain. One week where we spend every moment outside, from breakfast till bedtime. And even at bedtime going to bed is usually under protest 😊 It’s a week they’ll never forget!
Each trip has a detailed schedule and comes with an item by item packing list. Our guides are all certified mountain guides that have worked extensively with kids, know the area and have had first aid training.
