We know we sometimes might be subjective as we love every little corner of our beautiful country but in this case, we can say with confidence, you really do need to put this on your 3 year travelling plan.
The Danube Delta is a natural wonder and like many such gems around the world, recent climate changes and excessive development take a bite out of it every year. So the faster you get there, the better experience you will have.
Below are just a few ideas we hope will convince you to take the leap (and book those tickets).
Explore the Natural Reservation
An intricate maze of canals, lakes and swamps, you need a private boat and an experienced guide to help you nagivate and make sure you get the best of the experience.
Keep your camera ready for an impressive array of wild birds and animals, from the elegant swans and pelicans to the shy rabbits and minks. Cross the forest Letea and you might even have the priviledge of watching the last tribe of wild horses in Romania roaming free across the land. It is the best safari money can buy!
Traditional communities
Stopover for lunch at Mila 23, the fishermen community there will welcome you with open arms and you will get to taste fresh catch-of-the-day – cooked the same way their great great great great grandparents did hundreds of years ago.
Take any chance you get to interact with the local people, they are as much part of the Danube ecosystem as the water and the birds.
Stand-up paddle the canals
If you like to take it all in and bide your time, try a stand-up paddle strool through the canals. It will give you a unique perspective that a higher speed boat just can’t offer. Less noise and calmer waters won’t chase away the animals quite the same. So you’ll see more and get to hear the full harmony of bird song.
How to get there
Main access point is from Tulcea and you can easily get there by car or bus or train. From there you get on a boat and the whole Delta opens up – full of activities and endless posibilities. Just let yourself be wooed.
